Notice! Some parts of this website are still under construction and thus some information here may be incomplete.

The Lesson Study in Future Teacher Education (LIFT) is and ERASMUS+ project (1 September 2024 – 31 August 2027) that aims to develop a European blueprint for the professional development approach Lesson Study (LS) to support pre-service teachers (PSTs) and their teacher educators (TEs) in initial teacher education (ITE). Six European countries (Netherlands, Ireland, Estonia, Cyprus, Portugal, Switzerland) will localize the blueprint in 14 ITE programmes. An online Lesson Study platform is created to connect educators and researchers across countries.

Implementation

The LIFT blueprint is used throughout the project to support pre-service teachers´ development. The main project activities are the following:

  • Create a Lesson Study programme for pre-service teachers and teacher educators to sample characteristics of good LS-ITE practices;
  • Develop the LIFT blueprint;
  • Train teacher educators to pilot the blueprint in partners’ initial teacher education programmes;
  • Create a shared digital platform for supporting materials, programme-related data, the various outputs and for network development by partners and prospective users;
  • Outreach to the (inter)national Lesson Study community.

Main project results

The LIFT project consists of 5 work packages (WP) leading to:

  • monitoring and management of the project (WP1);
  • an immersion programme (WP2);
  • a LIFT blueprint with guidelines and resources to guide PSTs and TEs through Lesson Study in English and local languages (WP3);
  • training for teacher educators to initiate Lesson Study and pilot the blueprint in each partner’s local initial teacher education context (WP4);
  • this project website, different social media channels, publication and outreach to the wider practitioner and academic communities (WP5).
