LIFT Project – Lesson Study in Future Teacher Education

Lesson Study Conference in Estonia

First-ever Lesson Study Conference in Estonia on 26 August 2026 brought together teachers, school leaders, students and researchers to share experiences from Lesson Study implementation in schools and learn from one another.

We welcomed internationally renowned Lesson Study expert Catherine C. Lewis from Mills College at Northeastern University (Oakland, California, USA) as keynote speaker and heard inspiring stories from Estonian LS pilot schools. Students reminded us that the best learning happens when lessons are engaging, meaningful, and every learner’s voice is valued. The conference highlighted the value of collaboration, evidence-informed practice, and student-centered learning.

Now, as the new semester at the university is beginning, Lesson Study will be integrated into initial teacher education at the University of Tartu for the first time, strengthening connections between research, teacher education, and classroom practice. With the support from LIFT project team, we are helping future teachers develop collaborative and research-informed practices from the start of their careers.

The future of Lesson Study in Estonia is just beginning!
