Lesson Study in the University of Latvia
Last week, Estonian team from the University of Tartu visited Latvian University in the context of Estonian Teachers’ Academy project funded by Estonian Ministry of Education and Research and European Commission. In Riga we also found that a team of their STEM education focusing researchers have done a lot of studies using lesson study approach. They apply it in school-based settings.
The general approach is the same as in this Erasmus+ LIFT project (Setting goals – Planning lesson – Observing lesson – Reflect on lesson) but they emphasized the importance of an expert in the lesson study group to support teachers (usually 3 to 5 planning and conducting the lesson study cycle together) in their planning and reflection.
I got to know more about Dace Namsone and Karlis Greitāns. However, it was also great to see that our Educational Technology Master’s programme alumnus Ergi Bufasi has focused on this topic.
